Dortmund Doubles - Buddy Program

Dortmund Doubles

If you as an exchange student come to Dortmund, you don't have to worry that nobody will be taking care of you and showing you around campus or the city.

That is why you will have a double! He or she is a student of the TU Dortmund and will contact you once you have arrived. Besides getting to know the campus and the city, you and your double can do further activities, such as walking around the Christmas market, going to a BVB game, visiting a coal-mine...

Especially in the first weeks it is very helpful,
as there is so many new questions:
Where can I go shopping? Where can I get a Sim-card for my mobile? ...

In the section about shopping and doctors, we want to help you with these problems, but a personal contact is even better and can take you wherever you want to go.

If you are a student of Dortmund, this can be your opportunity to get to know people from a foreign country, hang around with them, have a nice time and collect intercultural experiences. Become a Dortmund Double!

Here are some pictures from the 2008 Thanksgiving, which was organized by the American students and their Doubles, but the European Erasmus students joined as well:

Multi-Culti

More than 2600 international students from over 100 different nations - and most of them live in the student accomodations around the Campus.

This means, that while you are studying at the TU Dortmund, you will definitely come in contact with many other international students.

The TU Dortmund has different groups that organize international events, one of them is the International Culture Cafe (ICC). I've been two the latest two ICCs and have taken some pictures for you.
The ICC is held by the international students from the University and it always includes:
typical music, typical food and a presentation about the day's country.

Check out Turkey, Westafrica (16 countries) and India

ICC Turkey

An amazing feature of the ICC is definitely the traditional food!!! It is really cheap (between 0.50 and 1.50€) and it is so yummy!

ICC Westafrika and India

At the moment, the International Meeting Center is in construction:

Campus Festival

"Since 1991 the TU Dortmund organizes the Campus Festival once a year, an open day where the university presents itself to all people interested.

Besides the science area with its numerous experiments and taster lectures, the bodily needs are also taken care of. Around the “Mensabrücke” one can enjoy food from all over the world prepared by German and foreign students from the TU Dortmund.

The Campus Festival is also known for big open air parties on the Martin-Schmeißer-Platz where successful German bands like Astrakid, Tomte, Such a Surge or Donots have performed."
(taken from TU Dortmund homepage)

The Campus Festival also has its own section on th TU Dortmund homepage, where you find the specific events by each faculty.

Here are some impressions:

A big event every year is the "Seifenkisten Rennen".
Professors take part in a competition to find out who is the fastest driver.

Here you can find different stands with food from all over the world.
