Campus University

TU Dortmund is a Campus University

The TU Dortmund University is called Campus University. It means that, unlike many other universities in Germany, the buildings, the bars and the dormitories are on the same campus. As a student or a professor you do not have to walk far to get to your next class, to the mensa building or to get a coffee at the campus café “Sonnendeck”. In the mensa (refectories) building you can also find the “Galerie Treff” where you can eat some snacks like French Fries or you can have a coffee.

It is also very convenient, if you live close by the campus in one of the dormitories, because the walking time to the buildings only takes 10 minutes. In fact, the public transportation, either bus or train, is also very close by, so that you can easily be in Dortmund’s city centre in 10 minutes as well.

Or you can take the well-known Hochbahn (elevated railway) to the southern part of the campus where subjects like room planning or social sciences are taught. The H-Bahn is very famous in Dortmund and just
recently (May 2nd 2009) celebrated its 25th anniversary.

On the following map you can see the northern part of the campus which is connected to the southern part via the H-Bahn. This public transportation is free and it is very convenient to travel from one campus to the other, if you have to.
